ONE OR MANY

“We fare no better in our speculations than a fish which should strive to become clear as to what is water.” – Albert Einstein

Here is a piece of paper. It is one thing.

I drew two dots on it. Now there are three things: a piece of paper and two dots.

I drew two invisible dots. Are there three things still?

You and I sing a song. Is our singing because of the song? Is the song because of our singings? Will it be a different song if my voice differs, or yours?

Will the sea be the same sea if I am a different fish? Will I be a different fish if I am in a different sea?

As a fish I embody the sea. My skeleton, my skin, my organs, my sensors are shaped by its salinity, its density, its conductivity. The sea embodies us, fishes. Our breathing, our temperature make up its oxidation, its precipitation, its acidity. Our deepwater fears and dreams, our freshwater hopes and joys.

The sea is the field in which us, fishes, exist. But it is us, fishes, who make the field.

Then am I a sea? Then am I a you? What’s in-between you and me? Does the sea separates us or connects us?

Would it be a different world if my thoughts are different? Would it be a different world if I love you differently?

The day you were born the world changed its colors. Blessed be your life.
